“We’re Nurses First”
Besides creating new associations for AORN members directly to ANA, it addresses a HUGE need in our profession. Unification!

During the AORN (Association of periOperative Registered Nurses) annual meeting, I had the great pleasure along with AORN President Mary Jo Steiert announcing the agreement to provide individual affiliate membership to AORN members. The reaction to the news has been extremely positive. Take a quick look at this video clip http://www.aorn.org/News/March2008News/ANAAgreement/
“We’re nurses first. Standing together as nurses with a united presence, we are committed to improving patient safety in all settings” remarked Linda Stierle, CEO ANA, after the announcement of a powerful collaboration between ANA and AORN.
Why might this be of interest to blog about?
Besides creating new associations for AORN members directly to ANA, it addresses a HUGE need in our profession. Unification! We are so fragmented and disconnected. Did you know that it has been reported that 80% all of registered nurses belong to no professional association? What kind of political clout could we use if all 2.9 million nurses belong?
Join me in congratulating our AORN friends and colleagues for their forward thinking to create a stronger voice for nursing and nurses.
